Menton... pearl of France

Menton is a city full of charms that is located on the French / Italian border. Surrounded by steep mountains falling down to meet the sea, Menton was given its nickname of “pearl of France” in the Nineteenth Century by Elysée Reclus. The city is shielded from the wind and enjoys a very pleasant climate.
Menton is both a garden-city and a sea-resort. An exceptionally sunny and almost subtropical climate creates the ideal conditions for growing citrus trees, palm trees, mimosa and for extracting rarer essential oils. You will be enchanted its skilfully created subtropical gardens dotted around the city.
Its 2 marinas, the old port and the beautiful coast are all excellent reasons to savour the sea and the dolce vita that are present here all year round.
The old city is well worth a visit. Its old buildings will take you back to a time gone by. Take a stroll around Garavan, located between the old city and the Italian border). Luxurious villas line the avenue, built in past centuries by nobles and bourgeois who came to enjoy life on the Côte d’Azur.
