Gorbio

Its houses are connected with vaulted passages. Strolling down Gorbio’s narrow streets takes us back into history. On the main square, you can find a centuries old elm (which was planted in 1713) around which the older generations gather to listen to the murmur of the fountain.

Saint-Agnès

The hightest coastal village in Europe. Perched at 700 meters, Saint Agnes has always fascinated visitors. At the end of the last century, tourists coming to Menton in winter made it one of their favourite destinations. The broken ruins of the old castle, rumoured to be of sarracen’s origins, picturesque little streets of the medieval center, and, built between 1933 and 1938, the fort, dug into rock, southern bastion of the Alps Maginot line, are not to be missed.

Castillon

With its green-shuttered stone houses, Castillon displays the charm of Provencal villages, where life is to be enjoyed to the fullest. Since 1988, art workshops have been taking place, with exhibitions and workshop visits changing everyday life. The story is worth listening to. Brought to ruins by the terrible earthquake of 1887, i twas rebuilt lower in the valley. The new village was then destroyed by bombs during the second world war. The architectual prowess of Castillon-le-neuf was rewarded in 1952 with the most beautiful French village award.

Castellar

A picturesque village perched on a hill, Castellar stretches from north to south around small streets, connected by numerous vaulted passageways. The village is surrounded by terraces olive groves and fig trees. A oilmill, belonging to the town processes the local olives.
